Description
The Japanese snowbell, Styrax japonicus is one of the best trees for urban gardens and streetscapes. It is compact with horizontal branching and a rounded or pyramidal crown. The branches are covered by pure white, pendulous, lightly fragrant bells in spring. These become attractive tear drop-shaped fruit that persist through summer into fall. Older trees develop smooth grey bark that exfoliates to reveal a pretty orange inner layer especially valued for winter interest. For the 2025 Rare Flowering Tree Pre-Order plants will be in 1g pots and about 1-2 feet tall.
