Description
Ribes odoratum Black Topaz (‘RA-5/06 Seedling’) is often called clove currant because of its sweetly fragrant flowers that occur in early spring. These are followed by very large, sweet, flavourful, black berries with a slight spicy character in late summer. A very hardy and disease resistant, upright growing bush. All currants are rich in antioxidants and have a much higher vitamin C content than oranges. They can be eaten fresh or used for jams, jellies, and juices. They are easy-to-grow, self-fertile, and very hardy to at least zone 3.
