Description
Ratibida columnifera ‘Red Midget’ is a dwarf variety of this drought-tolerant prairie wildflower known as Mexican hat plant. The reflexed petals are highly saturated with deep maroon red with yellow edges around long, prominent cones. The flowers appear to float on airy, feathery foliage and bloom over a long period through summer and fall on stems 18-36 inches tall. Interplant with warm-season grasses for intense drama. Great in hot and dry conditions. Bird and pollinator attractor. Deer resistant. Salt tolerant. Primarily native to BC in the southeast though it has once been found in the Fraser Valley.
