Description
Punica granatum ‘Afganski’ is a hardy Russian pomegranate prized for its consistent heavy production of very large, sweet to slighty tart, dark red-skinned fruit. The bright scarlet flowers contrast against its rich green leaves for that subtropical look. This is a multi-stemmed deciduous shrub that grows from 8 to 15 feet tall but is easy to keep smaller by pruning. Pomegranates require lots of sun and heat to bloom and fruit. They are self fertile and leaf out in late spring. Hardy to zone 6b.
