Description
Papaver orientale plena ‘Red Shades’ is a semi-double to double Oriental poppy with extra large, ruffled, crepe-like, fire engine red flowers with purple-black centres. The foliage is grey-green, fern-like, and toothed giving rise to upright flower stems up to 32 inches tall. Oriental poppies are dramatic additions to the perennial border. Grow in organically rich, medium moisture soil and full sun. They go semi-dormant after flowering as summer heat increases usually flushing new foliage as summer cools into fall. Plant a low, mounding perennial in front of your poppy patch to mask the bare spot. Pollinator attractor. Deer and rabbit resistant.
