Description
Panicum virgatum ‘Prairie Dog’ is a shorter, compact switch grass with gorgeous blue foliage, a strongly upright habit, and sturdy stems that will hold up all season and even after a winter snowfall. In late summer plants are topped with airy pink inflorescences that form a beautiful textural cloud 36-48 inches tall and 24-36 inches wide. Looks amazing planted en masse, as a specimen to add an exclamation point in the perennial border, for vertical height and movement, as a low hedge, in a container or in the rock garden, and for xeriscaping. Beneficial for over wintering birds and insects. Deer resistant. A Canadian native from Saskatchewan to Nova Scotia.
