Description
Olea europaea ‘Maurino’ is an excellent Tuscan olive oil cultivar that produces a delicate and aromatic oil. The fruit matures to purplish black early in the season, a trait good for cooler summer climates. Trees are medium sized with lush, weeping branches excellent for container growing and smaller spaces. Exhibits good hardiness in our region. ‘Maurino’ produces prolific flowers making it an excellent pollinator for other olives including ‘Coratina’, ‘Frantoio’, ‘Leccino’, ‘Pendolino’, and ‘Taggiasca’. It is itself self-infertile. ‘Frantoio’ and ‘Leccino’ are noted as good pollinators for it though other cultivars may also do the trick.
