Description
‘Yaku Jima’ is a dwarf maiden grass with narrow, light green blades which turn reddish brown in fall. The compact clumps to 3-4 feet tall and wide provide a wonderful fine texture in the mid to back border. Tiny buff flowers with reddish highlights appear in tassel-like inflorescences above the foliage in late summer to fall later turning silver. Miscanthus sinensis is one of the best grasses for year-round beauty in the garden. In winter the foliage and flowers turn straw-coloured but persist until spring. Shear plants to the ground just before new growth emerges in spring. Deer resistant.
