Description
Magnolia ‘Charles Coates’ is a rare cross of M. sieboldii and M. tripetala with upward-facing, five inch wide, white flowers in May and June with 9-12 petals, purple-red centres, and a pleasing fragrance. It also sports impressively large foliage up to 10 inches long held in whorls. This small tree typically reaches 10-15 feet tall but could reach 25 feet tall in good growing conditions. Discovered at Kew Gardens in the 1940s. For the 2025 Rare Flowering Tree Pre-Order plants will be in 1g pots and about 1-2 feet tall.
