Description
Leymus arenarius ‘Blue Dune’ is known as blue lyme grass. It is highly ornamental with arching, broadly linear, flat, pale blue-gray leaves 24 inches long. Throughout summer, stiff, erect stems produce buff-coloured inflorescences a foot above the foliage up to 24-36 inches tall. Spreads aggressively by rhizomes and naturalizes readily. Blue foliage contrasts beautifully with purples and maroon coloured plants. Use for vertical, architectural appeal in the mixed border, for bold focal points, in containers, and for drought-tolerant ground cover including on hillsides for erosion control. Tolerates salt and drought. Deer and rabbit resistant. A larval host for some butterfly species.
