Description
Iris japonica is rare species known as fringed or crested iris. It has delicate, fragrant, orchid-like flowers that display ruffled white petals with fringed margins with pale blue markings and prominent yellow crests on the falls. The flowers are two inches in diametre and bloom from late spring to early summer. The evergreen foliage is thin with sword-shaped basal leaves that grow in fans with downward arching tips. Vigorous and naturalizes easily. Use in beds, borders, rock gardens, and containers and as a ground cover. Deer resistant. Possibly hardy to zone 6. Photo: Wikipedia.
