Description
Hibiscus dasycalyx commonly known as Neches River rose-mallow, is a rare and endangered perennial found in eastern Texas rarely seen in horticulture. It typically grows 3-4 feet tall topped with large, 3-6 inch wide, bowl-shaped, white flowers with overlapping petals and dark reddish-purple centres with prominent stamens. It will bloom in summer. The intriguing, textural foliage is narrow, lobed and finely divided emerging red-purple in spring and maturing to medium to dark green. Rustic seed pods remain into November. Late to emerge in spring followed by rapid growth. Use in the border, as a specimen or focal point. Provide even moisture or grow as a marginal in a pond or water feature. Attracts bees and hummingbirds.
