Description
Dryopteris wallichiana is a very handsome, stately, semi-evergreen fern with long, 3-5 feet tall, lance-shaped, arching fronds growing from an erect rhizome. The fronds when unfurling, are buttery-yellow contrasting against the dark brown scales on the stalk and midrib. They mature to rich green. Evergreen in coastal BC though fronds will collapse to the ground in late winter. Semi-evergreen to deciduous in colder climates. Fantastic when planted en masse in the woodland or cottage garden, as an understorey planting, and in a container.
