Description
Cornus kousa ‘Akatsuki’ is a fabulous sport of ‘Satomi’ with white-variegated leaves and deep pink flowers with variable white edges. The luscious flowers have rounded bracts in late spring followed by strawberry-like red fruits that are edible but are generally left to the birds. The leaves turn burgundy in autumn. Best grown in organically rich, medium moisture, well-drained soils in full sun to part shade. Some afternoon shade is best in hot summer climates. Will reach about eight feet in 10 years, eventually growing to about 15 feet tall and wide. For the 2025 Rare Flowering Tree Pre-Order plants will be in 1g pots and about 1-2 feet tall.
