Description
Citrus x paradisi ‘Melogold’ is similar to ‘Oroblanco’ in interior colour and texture but with a thinner, more golden skin, larger fruit, and slightly higher juice content. It forms strikingly large, flattened, seedless fruits with yellow flesh that are sweet and lack the bitterness and acid of regular grapefruit. The flavour is sweet, tender, and juicy and more reminiscent of pummello than grapefruit. The flowers are large and very fragrant and the plants produce well even without heat in cool summer climates. This is a cross of a diploid pummello and a tetraploid grapefruit. All of our citrus are grafted onto C-35 citrange, trifoliate orange, or other semi-dwarfing rootstock which confer good hardiness and production while reducing overall tree size.
