Description
Cirsium rivulare is a rare and wonderful perennial with spiny leaves and cool thistle-like flower heads. ‘Atropurpureum’ has an upright habit, forming a clump of branching, nearly leafless stems with spherical, deep pinkish-red flower buds that open at the top into fuzzy lipstick red flowers. It offers a long bloom season, see-through flower stems, and a unique flower shape valuable for contrasting with other types of inflorescences in the garden. Popular with bees. Deer resistant.
