Description
Calycanthus x raulstonii ‘Hartlage Wine’ is a dense, rounded deciduous small shrub known as Raulston’s allspice with intriguing, four inch wide, camellia-like flowers that look like two flowers in one with a cup of red-pink outer tepals holding a smaller cup of pink-white inner tepals. This inner cup contains a mounded ring of yellow stamens. Flowers have a mild fragrance. The large oval, light-green leaves make this an interesting foliage shrub when not in bloom. A hybrid of C. chinensis and C. floridus. In zone 6 plant in a protected microclimate and mulch the trunk with at least a foot of fallen leaves.
