Description
The painted buckeye or sunrise horse chestnut, Aesculus x neglecta ‘Erythroblastos’, is a beautiful, slow-growing, broadly columnar, small to medium sized deciduous tree offering spectacular spring and fall foliage displays. In spring, the leaves comprised of five leaflets emerge in glowing shades of reddish pink to creamy pink, sometimes tinged with orange. They change to creamy whitish green and then dark green by summer. In fall, the foliage takes on brilliant shades of orange and yellow. The late spring flowers are also ornamental produced in upright clusters of palest yellow to creamy white with pink highlights. This cultivar rarely produces fruits. Though it can eventually reach 30-40 feet, ‘Erythroblastos’ is slow-growing putting on about a foot of growth per year. It would be happy in containers for many years before needing to be planted in the ground. Attracts hummingbirds, bees, and butterflies.
