Vaccinium ovatum Cascade Jewel

Vaccinium ovatum Cascade Jewel is a compact evergreen huckleberry with bright red new foliage and edible berries.

Vaccinium ovatum Cascade Jewel is an exciting West Coast nativar that stands out from other evergreen huckleberries with its thicker, more rigid stems that give the plant a more structured, upright habit and the stunning new foliage that emerges fiery red and becomes deep red before fading to green. The new growth is stunning against the older, finely serrated, deep green foliage. Extremely floriferous with racemes of white, urn-shaped spring flowers followed by medium to large, glossy, purple-black, edible berries in summer. Plants will reach 42 inches high and 36 inches wide. Self-fertile and low maintenance. Use as an informal hedge, specimen, and in pots on the patio. Hummingbird, bee, and butterfly attractor. Deer resistant. Cultivar name: ‘124OSU’.
