Tulipa-Historic ‘Insulinde’
Tulipa 'Insulinde' introduced before 1915 transforms in colour and form from yellow and rose to purple-burgundy and white.
Tulipa ‘Insulinde’ is a true Broken tulip from before 1915 preserved at the Hortus Bulborum. It opens with smooth, pale yellow flowers feathered with rose and transforms into a big ruffled flower richly coloured with feathers, flames or marbles of purple-burgundy on white. Every flower will be different. It is part of the historical group Bijbloemens. Large hybrid tulips can be maintained in the garden if given a sunny location with rich soil and slow release fertilizer when in growth. Hybrid tulips can persist in the garden for many years. Afterall, they rebloom each year in the fields of the Netherlands. Provide full sun where bulbs aren’t shaded by other plants, fertilize with bulb food as soon as they emerge in spring, and allow the foliage to die back naturally after flowering.
