Tulipa-Historic ‘Absalon’
Tulipa 'Absalon' introduced in 1780 is richly coloured with feathers, flames or marbles of burgundy-brown and yellow.

Tulipa ‘Absalon’ is a true broken tulip introduced in 1780 during the Dutch Golden Age and Tulipmania and preserved at the Hortus Bulborum. Richly coloured with feathers, flames or marbles of burgundy-brown, chocolate, and yellow, every flower will be different. Their patterning will be recognizable to those familiar with still life painting. It is part of the historical group Bizarre. Large hybrid tulips can be maintained in the garden if given a sunny location with rich soil and slow release fertilizer when in growth. Hybrid tulips can persist in the garden for many years. Afterall, they rebloom each year in the fields of the Netherlands. Provide full sun where bulbs aren’t shaded by other plants, fertilize with bulb food as soon as they emerge in spring, and allow the foliage to die back naturally after flowering.
