Solanum tuberosum ‘Russian Blue’ is said to be a heritage variety from Russia. A beautiful versatile gourmet potato with purple skin and purple/blue flesh and round to oblong shape. Their texture is similar to that of a russet potato – bake, mash, fry, steam, and boil. Roasting or grilling the halves will make the colour darker. This cultivar is a heavy producer and withstands dry conditions. Loose soils are preferable for higher production in the ground or large containers. Plant in early spring while soil is still cool. Hilling up potato plants increases yield. A late season maturing potato 100-120 days.
