Solanum lycopersicum Mighty Mato ‘Japanese Black Trifele’

Mighty Mato grafted tomatoes produce 2-3 times (or more!) fruit than ungrafted plants and are more cold tolerant and disease resistant.

‘Japanese Black Trifele’ is one of the favourite tomatoes from the days when we used to do tomato tastings at the nursery. It is a Russian heirloom with rich red, pear-shaped fruits with greenish shoulders that offers deep, rich, umami flavours and sweetness combined with smokiness. It is one of the best of the black tomatoes. Great for slicing, canning, salads, and sauces. Crack resistant. Harvest in 75-80 days. Indeterminate. Mighty Mato grafted tomatoes are hand grafted onto super strong tomato rootstock which provides greater disease resistance, greater cold tolerance (so tomatoes start growing faster in the spring), and great yield. Mighty Mato grafted plants usually produce 2-3 times more fruit than ungrafted plants, a difference that is especially large for heirloom varieties which do not always offer high yields.
