Selenicereus (syn. Hylocereus) ‘American Beauty’ is a highly prized dragon fruit cultivar valued for its reddish skin with bright green scales and the magenta-red interior fruit which is sweet and tasty filled with crunchy black seeds. The fruit is produced from gorgeous, white, fragrant, night-blooming flowers. Plants are self-fertile though hand pollination is recommended. Also pollination by another cultivar may increase fruit set. The fruit is oblong and about 0.5-1 pound each. A cool houseplant with the potential for delicious edible fruit. Likely a selection of hybrid involving S. guatemalensis. The photo is a generic image of dragon fruit and does not depict this cultivar. Photo: Wikipedia
