Rubus ‘Youngberry’

Rubus ‘Youngberry’ is a hybrid between the blackberry, raspberry and dewberry similar to boysenberries and loganberries. A vigorous grower with long, thorny canes, expect full production after 3 years. White flowers bloom in spring with berries maturing to a reddish-black in summer. They are larger, sweeter, juicier and ripen earlier than most blackberries. They are more fragile in terms of commercial harvesting which is why you don’t see the fruit commonly available. You’ll just have to grow your own! Support with a wall, trellis or other structure. Provide a rich, well-drained soil. Prune out weak and damaged canes after fruiting or in winter. Berries are delicious fresh, juiced, in jams and jellies, and wine and liqueurs. Use dried leaves for teas. Attracts bees and birds.
