Roscoea ‘Spice Island’ is a hardy ginger relative with clasping dark green leaves with deep red reverses on deep red stems. The clumps are topped with lavender purple, orchid-like flowers in mid summer. It can be used as a subtropical element in the part sun to part shade garden or in mixed shade beds or woodland gardens. A good container plant. Late to emerge in spring.
