Ribes rubrum ‘Pomona’ was bred in Canada and is much loved for its four inch long clusters of large, juicy, dark red berries that are sweeter than most other cultivars. All currants are rich in antioxidants and have a much higher vitamin C content than oranges. They can be eaten fresh or used for jams, jellies, and juices. They are easy-to-grow, self-fertile, and very hardy to at least zone 3.
