Rheum x hybridum ‘Strawberry Red’

Rheum 'Strawberry Red' is noted for its deep red, tasty, sweet stems with a mild flavour that hold their colour when cooked.

Rheum ‘Strawberry Red’ is a top cultivar of culinary rhubarb. It is noted for its deep red, tasty, sweet stems with a mild flavour that hold their colour even when cooked. Although rhubarb is a vegetable, the stalks are often used like a fruit in the production of preserves and desserts, mostly famously strawberry rhubarb pie! Remove the large leaves and discard before cooking. Bold spikes of white flowers emerge in summer and should be removed to encourage more foliage growth. Makes for a beautiful ornamental as well in a sunny flower bed. Do not harvest until the second year. Deer resistant.
