Rheum rhabarbarum ‘Holsteiner Blut’

Rheum rhabarbarum 'Holsteiner Blut' is a culinary rhubarb known for its great flavour and bright red stalks.

Rheum rhabarbarum ‘Holsteiner Blut’ is an early season, heavy producing, German cultivar with striking red stalks, great sweetness, and a nice touch of tartness. Technically a vegetable, use just the stalks as you would a fruit in the production of preserves and desserts. Remove the large leaves and discard before cooking. Bold spikes of white flowers emerge in summer and should be removed to encourage more foliage growth. Makes for a beautiful ornamental as well in a sunny flower bed. Do not harvest until the second year. Deer resistant.
