Polystichum braunii is the very cold hardy Braun’s holly fern native to North America, Europe and Asia. This semi-evergreen species forms a dense, erect-arching clump 22-36 inches tall and wide of lustrous, leathery, bi-pinnate, dark green fronds that narrow at both the tip and the base. The petiole is covered with silvery scales that mature to brown. Plant en masse for the shady woodland and cottage gardens, in borders, beds, and containers.
