Podophyllum delavayi (veitchii)

Podophyllum delavayi forms incredible dissected and red mottled umbrellas of foliage with pendulous red flowers.

Podophyllum delavayi is a Chinese mayapple. It is one of most exciting shade perennials. Fuzzy umbrellas emerge with dark snakeskin markings, often on a red background, changing to a patterned green. Mature leaves develop deep, notched serrations. Flowers can be red, pink, or white and are followed by apricot coloured fruit. Also called P. veitchii or Dysosma veitchii.
