Paeonia Itoh ‘Bartzella’

Paeonia 'Bartzella' is a classic Itoh peony with warm butter yellow flowers with orange-red centres.

Paeonia ‘Bartzella’ is a classic with warm butter yellow flowers with orange-red centres. It was among the first Itoh peonies to become available to the gardening public and used to sell for $300 for a single eye! Tissue culture and time has helped bring the price down into the range of mere mortals. Itoh peonies are intersectional hybrids between tree peonies (P. suffruticosa) and garden peonies (P. lactiflora) making outstanding herbaceous perennials with huge flowers in many unusual colours. A mature plant can have over 50 blooms! The foliage is like a tree peony and emerges rich red, gradually turning green.
