Opuntia polyacantha ‘Imnaha Sunset’

Opuntia polyacantha 'Imnaha Sunset' has round to oval pads with dense, orange spines and yellow flowers with orange centres.

Plains prickly pear (Opuntia polyacantha) is found from the Canadian prairies south to northern Mexico. ‘Imnaha Sunset’ has pretty, semi-double ruffled flowers in lemon-yellow with dark orange centers and lighter orange stamens appearing in the early summer. Pads are round to oval in varying lengths from 1 – 4 inches with dense, orange spines up to 2 inches long. Growth habit is 4 to 12 inches tall and up to 24 inches wide. Polycantha means ‘many thorns’. Plant in full sun in sharp draining soil.
