Opuntia macrorhiza (Charles B.)

Opuntia macrorhiza (Charles B.) has rich, tangerine orange flowers.

Opuntia macrorhiza is supposed to have yellow flowers sometimes with a reddish orange base to the petals. This form that came to us with the name “(Charles B.)” has rich, tangerine orange flowers and rounded green pads with cinnamon spines. Whatever the exact identity of this prickly pear, it sure is beautiful. Requires full sun with very sharp, careful drainage as this species is a cliff dweller. Much more drought tolerant than other cactus.
