Olea europaea 'Nocellara' hails from the Valle de Belice area of Sicily and is used to produce Castelvetrano olives.

Olea europaea ‘Nocellara’ hails from the Valle de Belice area of southwestern Sicily and is traditionally used to produce Castelvetrano olives. These are large, green olives with a mild buttery flavour and crisp, meaty texture popular with olive connoisseurs as well as those new to the bold flavours of the world of olives. It can also be used to produce a creamy olive oil with floral and herbaceous notes. ‘Nocellara del Belice’ is self-infertile. ‘Pendolino’ is noted as good pollinator though other cultivars may also do the trick.
