Musa sikkimensis ‘Ever Red’

Musa sikkimensis 'Ever Red' is a dramatic and cold hardy red banana with large green and burgundy striped foliage.

Musa sikkimensis ‘Ever Red’ is a highly ornamental and one of the hardiest of the red banana. Prized for its fabulous tropical foliage with striped green and maroon leaves. A vigorous grower with an upright habit reaching 10 to 13 feet tall. Not a culinary banana, this cultivar sometimes produces fruit that is inedible. After flowering and fruiting, the fruiting stem dies but roots push out new shoots called pups. After a cold frost, cut back the plant to 24 to 36 inches and treat like a herbaceous perennial by applying a protective layer of mulch. Plant in ground or in containers for a stunning, tropical and architectural statement.
