Musa ‘Siam Ruby’

Musa 'Siam Ruby' is a dramatic and hardy banana with large green and burgundy striped foliage.

Musa ‘Siam Ruby’ is a highly ornamental and hardy banana prized for its fabulous colourful foliage and compact habit. Both stems and foliage sport dark maroon-red with leaves also sporting spots and streaks of contrasting chartreuse green. Growth habit is 8 feet tall and 6 feet wide. Not a culinary banana, this cultivar rarely flowers and fruits are inedible. If flowers form, they are cream coloured, tubular in shape with cream and purple bracts. After a cold frost, cut back the plant to 24 to 36 inches and treat like a herbaceous perennial by applying a protective layer of mulch if planted in ground. Provide a frost-free area if in containers. Use for a stunning, tropical and architectural statement.
