Maianthemum racemosum subsp. racemosum
Maianthemum racemosum var. amplexicaule resembles Solomon's seal except the flowers are terminal and foamy followed by beautiful berries.
Maianthemum racemosum subsp. racemosum is the eastern North American counterpart to BC’s native subspecies amplexicaule. It has more arching stems with leaves not clasping but on short, tapering petioles. The leaves are alternate and elliptic to ovate with a terminal inflorescence of foamy, pure white flowers followed by greenish yellow berries with reddish spots slowly filling in until the berries are all bright red. Resembles a Solomon’s seal in habit with the difference being in the flowers. Formerly known as Smilacina racemosa.
