Maianthemum dilatatum is a beautiful native rhizomatous perennial that forms a lush ground cover of shiny heart-shaped leaves topped with short spikes of starry white flowers in spring. The resultant berries are at first greenish or greenish yellow and slowly become increasingly speckled with red through the summer turning completely red by fall. Known as false or two-leaved Solomon’s seal or false lily of the valley. Formerly known scientifically as Smilacina dilatata. Tolerant of deep shade, dry shade, and moist sites. Can spread vigorously in rich soils.
