Magnolia x loebneri ‘Leonard Messel’ is a compact, multi-stemmed cultivar with beautiful two-toned flowers – white on the inside and pinkish purple on the outside. A cross between M. kobus and M. stellata ‘Rosea’ with strap-like petals that are more similar to its star magnolia parentage. Flowers are less susceptible to frost than most magnolias and are precocious (blooming before leaves emerge).
