Lychnis coronaria
A long-standing border plant with grey foliage that sets off the magenta flowers to great effect. Long-flowering. Try it with Geranium psilostemon for excitement or Salvia ‘Purple Rain’ to cool things down a bit. For a sharper contrast try it with Potentilla recta and Anthemis. Easy and self seeds. I have seen this species escaped along roadsides on Pender Island. If you would like to grow this plant in similar habitats choose the cultivar ‘Gardener’s World’ which is sterile.
