Bignonia capreolata ‘Athens’
Bignonia capreolata 'Athens' is a fragrant crossvine with burgundy-red reverses opening to yellow interiors.

Bignonia capreolata or crossvine is a North American relative of the better-known Asian Campsis or trumpet vine. It is a large vine attaching with tendrils that offers subtropical flare with its large, fragrant, trumpet-shaped flowers in fiery colours in early to mid summer. ‘Athens’ has burgundy-red reverses opening to yellow interiors. Attractive to hummingbirds and bees. Tolerant of shade. In zone 5, stems may die back to the ground in winter and resprout in the spring. Provide a protective winter mulch. Photo: Wikimedia.
