Hippeastrum papilio
One of the most remarkable and beautiful of amaryllis species, Hippeastrum papilio has greenish white petals with burgundy stripes.

One of the most remarkable and beautiful of all amaryllis, Hippeastrum papilio has greenish white petals dramatically marked with burgundy stripes. A little more difficult to get to rebloom than the hybrids, it awards patience. Grow in a sunny location (usually in a pot) outside in summer. Fertilize well. Allow autumn frosts to hit the foliage then bring inside, chop off the leaves and allow to dry out in the dark. Give light and water when a bud or new foliage appears. Available in the fall as dry bulbs and sometimes potted in spring.
