Haworthia is an intriguing genus related to Aloe and native to southern Africa. Most form small rosettes of succulent foliage often with translucent tips or “light pipes” that allow light to enter into the leaves — which are often half buried in sand in the wild — for photosynthesis. ‘White Emperor City’ has green to deep grey-green leaves with pointed translucent tips covered in sparkling crystal-like bumps. Colours can deepen with more light and stress. Easy to grow. Tolerant of lower light than other succulents and cool temperatures but best kept above freezing.
