Eucomis ‘African Night’

EEucomis 'African Night' emerges in mid spring with dramatic purple foliage followed by dramatic, lavender pink spikes.

Eucomis ‘African Night’ emerges in mid spring with dramatic purple foliage. The bold strap-like leaves form a rosette 2-3 feet wide with foliage more upright and vase-shaped in hotter, leaner and drier conditions. In summer, the foliage lightens to deep green with burgundy highlights topped with 2-3 foot reddish stems of glistening, lavender-pink, lily-like flowers on an inflorescence that looks like a pineapple with a tuft of bracts at the top. Very easy to grow and tolerates a wide range of garden conditions. Full sun for best foliage colour. Grow through a carpet of Geranium ‘Ballerina’ or Sedum ‘Angelina’. Mulch in winter with fallen leaves.
