The foliage of this Mediterranean species is prickly and deeply cut with beautiful silver tracery and marbling. The plump cobalt-blue thistle-like flowers are irresistible to bees. This peculiar genus from the carrot family is found around the world but with its centre of diversity in South America. There are also a number of European species.
