Elaeagnus multiflora hails from the Russian Far East, China and Japan where it is grown for its tasty fruits. It is known as goumi, cherry silverberry, or cherry elaeagnus. Sweet Scarlet produces a profusion of fragrant, white flowers in spring popular with bees followed by juicy, scarlet red fruit speckled with silver in late summer that taste like tart cherries perfect for fresh eating, pies, and preserves. Tolerant of poor soils and very hardy. Partially self-fertile. Plant with Red Gem for heavier crops.
