Elaeagnus multiflora Red Gem

Elaeagnus multiflora Red Gem goumi produces large, sweet and tart, juicy, scarlet red fruit speckled with silver in summer.

Elaeagnus multiflora hails from the Russian Far East, China and Japan where it is grown for its tasty fruits. It is known as goumi, cherry silverberry, or cherry elaeagnus. Red Gem produces a profusion of fragrant, white flowers in spring popular with bees followed by heavy crops of large, juicy, scarlet red fruit speckled with silver in late summer that taste like tart cherries perfect for fresh eating, pies, and preserves. Tolerant of poor soils and very hardy. Partially self-fertile. Plant with Sweet Scarlet for heavier crops.
