Dryopteris filix-mas is a deciduous male fern that has large, arching green fronds and long-pointed pinnated leaflets.

Dryopteris filix-mas, commonly known as male fern, has large, arching green fronds with long-pointed pinnae up to 2-3 feet tall. Wonderful in the shady woodland garden as a specimen, as a tall, mass-planted understorey ground cover, and in containers. Tolerates deer and rabbits, heavy shade and clay soil. Native to Canada from BC to Newfoundland.
