Dryopteris atrara is a semi-evergreen, shaggy wood fern with graceful, arching glossy, dark green fronds with black scales that hang from the stems for a nice contrast. A mid-side fern with a nice clumping growth habit of 3 feet tall and wide. Enjoys even moisture in rich, well-drained soil. Excellent for mass plants as an understory plant, in shady beds, rock or cottage gardens, containers, borders and in woodland settings.
